UPTOWN OPTIMIST CLUB

This page contains photographs of Uptown Meetings and Events. The Current photos featured here includes book distribution as part of the RIF Program. Bill & Kathyleen St. Louis sit with the students during a book distribution at one of the nine schools the Uptown Optimist Club provides money to so they can ourchase books for the students to take home with them. As you can see by the smiles on their faces, they are very happay. We give $10,000.00 each year to these nine schools, $1,000.00 each and one get $1,500.00. They in turn get matching grants from Reading is Fundamental, the government and parent groups and double and sometimes triple our $1,000.00 gift. We feel that without being able to read well, a child will have a hard time making it in this world today.

The excitement of an Oratorical Contest with 8 or 9 others competing against you is a thrill. It is very enjoyable for their parents, families and all the Optimist seated there to listen to these young people speak with confidence that we wish we had when we were their ages.
